The SOI wafer has a skinny layer of silicon dioxide (SiO2) on top of a thick Si substrate and buried beneath a thin Si machine layer; the machine layer is going to be etched to outline higher factor ratio Si nanorods while the buried oxide gives an etch stop to aid fabri
